Celebrate Indigenous and Western science as well as Indigenous youth and Elder achievements at The Indigenous Science Experience Family Fun Day. Enjoy activities presented by academic and research scientists, Indigenous Elders, student peer-educators and other outreach and community leaders.
Yarn with Elders on bush foods and medicines, make Aboriginal tools and jewellery, discover the science of ochre, take part in hands-on science shows led by Indigenous youth, solve maths puzzles, try out robotic activities, plus enjoy lots of other science and technology activities.
There will also be a traditional smoking ceremony and the opportunity to purchase some Aboriginal arts, crafts and food from stalls.
Open to the whole community, the day demonstrates the value of traditional and contemporary (customary) Indigenous knowledge in science and technology and the relevance of science to our everyday lives. It provides an opportunity for all Australians to participate by presenting a diverse array of science in a culturally relevant manner.
This event is hosted by the National Indigenous Science Education Program, Macquarie University, Inspiring Australia, Redfern Community Centre and the City of Sydney.
