ABC Science Live on Stage – Ockham’s RazorEvent Talk Adults
Seven amazing scientists hit the stage to talk about their research, their thoughts and their opinions – in a live version of the ABC Science program Ockham’s Razor.
Ockham’s Razor is an audio program produced by ABC RN’s science unit. It features short talks about research, industry and policy from people with something thoughtful to say about science.
William of Ockham was an English monk, philosopher, theologian who provided the scientific method with its key principle 700 years ago.
‘What can be done with fewer assumptions is done in vain with more,’ he said. That is, in explaining any phenomenon, we should use no more explanatory concepts than are absolutely necessary.
Dr Alice Williamson – chemist, lecturer and science communicator based at The University of Sydney.
Dr Darren Saunders – cancer biologist, associate professor of medicine at the University of New South Wales, and science communicator on ABC Radio and TV.
Dr Noushin Nasiri – Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), the Institute for Biomedical Materials & Devices (IBMD).
Dr Denton Callander – Denton is a research scientist at the Kirby Institute, UNSW Sydney, working in the area of sex, sexualities and sexual health
Professor Nalini Joshi – Georgina Sweet Australian Laureate Fellow in mathematics at the University of Sydney.
Diana Lucia – a PhD candidate at the University of Queensland researching the effects of maternal alcohol consumption around conception on fetal brain outcomes.
Dr Sophie Calabretto – a mathematician, fluid mechanist and lecturer in the Department of Mathematics at Macquarie University.
There will be a cash bar open from 5.30–8.30pm.
