Science Behind The Scenes: Conservation LabEvent Families
Acid, rust and insects – oh my!
Conservators are the caretakers of museum collections, working on the best ways to store, preserve and present the many thousands of objects at MAAS. Visit the restricted MAAS Conservation Lab and find out how the Conservation team use scientific techniques to keep the precious objects of the MAAS collection in tip top shape in this behind the scenes tour.
From protecting centuries-old textiles to using human saliva for cleaning fragile objects, our conservators will provide an insight into the world of conservation at the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences, with a rare opportunity to learn how Museum staff practice the subtle science and exact art of keeping objects in perfect condition for hundreds of years.
The tour will meet at 10.45am outside the Powerhouse Museum security office (marked with a blue framed glass door), located in the Harwood building opposite the Level 1 Junction cafe. Access is via the Goods Line or down Macarthur street, adjacent to the Powerhouse museum.
