Antibiotic Resistance

Presented by State Library of NSW
Talk

Join microbiologist Dr Laura McCaughey from the University of Technology Sydney and the University of Oxford, UK, for a fascinating look at the role vaccines play in helping to slow the spread of antibiotic resistant bacteria.

Dr Laura McCaughey is a Sir Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Research Fellow working at the ithree institute at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), in collaboration with the University of Oxford, UK.

Laura was awarded a four year Sir Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Research Fellowship after her PhD, enabling her to establish international collaborations between UTS and the University of Oxford. Laura’s main research questions are ‘How do bacteria develop resistance to antibiotics and how can we identify novel approaches to antibiotic development to overcome this problem?’

Over the last four years Laura has been actively involved in highlighting the problem of antibiotic resistance to the public, and the interventions necessary to prevent the problem from escalating further.

This event is part of Inspiring Australia’s Talking Science series as part of Sydney Science Festival in National Science Week.
