Protecting Our Environment: The New Brigade

Presented by Woollahra Libraries
Talk

Captain Planet and the Planeteers fight environmental crime on TV, but who actually protects our environment, and how do they do it?

Ecotoxicologists are forensic scientists for the environment, sifting through evidence of pollution, trace elements, movement and chemical signatures to provide expert advice and evidence.

Scientists like Francesca Gissi and Amanda McDonald work in ecotoxicology, using scientific methodology to find out more about what really happened from an environmental perspective.

Working proactively to protect the environment are other scientists, like Georgina Dawson who spends her time finding ways to prevent harm to our valuable waterways and their associated flora and fauna.

Join Francesca, Amanda and Georgina from the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment as they chat about their unusual careers, and what it is like to work at the forefront of environmental research and protection.

This event is part of Inspiring Australia’s Talking Science series as part of Sydney Science Festival in National Science Week.
