From Reef to Harbour: The Hidden Wonder of NSW Corals

Researchers from the Sydney Institute of Marine Science invite secondary school students to visit the facility and learn about Australia’s corals; the incredible habitats they create, and current and future threats to their survival.

Here, students will participate in a virtual trip southward, from the warm, tropical waters of the Great Barrier Reef, down to the cooler waters of the Solitary Islands, Lord Howe Island, and lastly to Sydney’s iconic harbour.

Each of the interactive stations will engage students in fun, hands-on learning, and offer students a rare opportunity to interact and experiment with living specimens. Students will observe leading coral researchers in action to discover how scientists study these important reef-building animals to better understand the future of our changing oceans.

This event is jointly hosted by University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney and Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS). SIMS is a focal point for collaborative marine research that brings together scientists from Macquarie University, the University of Sydney, University of Technology Sydney and UNSW Sydney.
